THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND
BUILDING AN ISLAND
The island was digitally built after an initial shoot of long-rooted Banyan trees in a Taiwanese Botanical Reserve.
THE WHIRLPOOL
The whirlpool scene was created entirely by computer graphics. A perfect replica of a Banyan tree hovered above a blue-screen, allowing Suraj to look down into the mystic waters below.
A HOST OF MEERKATS
Animators individually created thousands of meerkats to give the impression that each had its own personality.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE
King, the real-life tiger, was used as the model for his virtual counterpart. Can you tell which is which?
VIRTUALLY CLONED
It took over one year of dedication and patience to reproduce the principal tiger, “King.” Designers painstakingly replicated his skeleton, muscle and fur.
A KING AMONGST TIGERS
For Ang Lee, the choice of tiger was made easy when he spotted one with natural markings matching the Chinese symbol for ‘King’.

In a true testament of his dedication to the role, Suraj not only learned how to swim for the film, but also did all of his own stunts.
Before underwater training, Suraj could hold his breath for 15 seconds. After, he could hold it for two minutes.
